New Final Fantasy XIII Trailer Unveiled

Posted by MJK On September - 28 - 2009

Final Fantasy XIII is the much awaited game for 2009 and everyone is looking forward to it. According to a website, the latest trailer for it has been released. The site adds:

The Japanese site for Final Fantasy XIII has been updated with a brand new trailer from TGS 2009! Based on earlier reports this seems to be the same trailer shown at GamesCom this year, but the fact that it has been released to the public, and in the same year as it premiered no less, is surprising. Head over to the site to check out the trailer for yourselves!

Although not much news came out of TGS this year, the new trailer definitely makes up for it.

The new trailer can be found on the site Square Enix but the problem is that trailer is in Japanese and hence if anyone can get hold of an English version, please feel free to drop a comment so that we can update the post accordingly.

Till then, click here to Watch the Third Trailer for Final Fantasy Xiii.

According to PC Magazine:

The tearful romantic prelude against a Roger-Dean-inspired backdrop, the draconian sovereign barking orders with hands compulsively clasped behind back, the spasmodic battle clips teeming with stunts, spells, summons, and servo-mechanical enemies. Characters plead, conspire, sulk, reminisce, taunt, beg, and occasionally freak out. Patently illogical actions (see the protagonist’s sword-tantrum two-thirds in) occasionally yield improbable results. The laws of physics are subsumed by the maxims of stagecraft, allowing passengers to endure vehicles slung round like toy tops, then leap deftly from them onto soaring perches like circus hotshots with anti-gravity belts.

Be warned, there’s a supremely annoying Japanese pop song halfway along that soundtracks the visuals like something time-warped from a glittering disco-ball lounge (From Bach to Bacharach, the Circle of Fifths remains sentimentally indelible.) That aside, the opening bit with ol’ blonde and do-ragged romancing a disturbingly young-looking girl plays over a dissonant a cappella piece, presumably by composer Masashi Hamauzu. Promising stuff. For every cornball ballad in these games, there’s an avant garde piece (or three) lurking

CMS Products V2 Absplus 1Tb Back Up Hard Drive – Review

Posted by MJK On September - 13 - 2009

cms-v2-absplus-1tb-hard-driveCMS V2 Absplus is one of the fastest backup drives available in the market. Priced at $233 as of date, it offers a lot of features packed in just one gadget. The product is truly dubbed as “World Easiest Backup” solution. CMS V2 Absplus has USB/e-SATA interface. Beside this, it has a highly capable software which also contributes to part of its name i.e Automated Backup System or “ABS”.  According to  PC World:

Included on most recent PCs, e-SATA is considerably faster than USB 2.0 (which the ABS also supports). Thus, when attached to the e-SATA port, the ABS 1TB took just 25 minutes to back up almost 50GB of data; over USB, it took about 50 minutes to back up the same data.

Despite its speed, though, the overriding impression I’ll take away from the CMS V2 ABSplus 1TB is the shock I felt as the included BounceBack Ultimate software partitioned the hard drive I pointed it to without posing any secondary ‘Are you sure?’ query to confirm my intentions. The occasional lack of confirmation dialog boxes made me nervous, but BounceBack Ultimate is certainly packed with features and versatility. Despite being somewhat gaudy, the new interface is easy to navigate; and the software-hardware combo performed well overall. You can set backups to begin at first connection of the drive to the PC (USB only; e-SATA isn’t plug-and-play on most PCs), and you can define backups sets, schedule backups, and back up to multiple locations.

Yet another option is to set BounceBack Ultimate for a mode called Continuous Data Protection (or CDP), which protects your files in real time as you work on them. An Instant Recovery CD handles disaster recovery. Many competing backup drives lack both of these features. If disaster strikes, the ABSplus can double as your boot drive, until you have a chance to rebuild your internal system drive.

The portable ABSplus is an amazing solution for the mobile professional. Not only is the ABSplus the World’s Easiest Backup, it allows you to carry your computer with you right in your pocket! The ABSplus saves all data in native file format, making access to your files as simple as plugging into any computer. These state of the art notebook backup solutions allow you to keep working even if your computer doesn’t. Overall, its is versatile and delievers automated backup solution with an amazing speed as compared to the other options available in the market.

Facebook Lite Available for Users with Slow Connection

Posted by MJK On September - 12 - 2009

Facebook has finally unveiled their super lite version titled “Facebook Lite“. Everyone has been awaiting its arrival and the site is now finally made public. I personally gave it a try and found it super fast and very lite for users who love sites with simple interface and easy to open with even slow internet connections. The Facebook Lite has made few changes in the traditional version to make it super light. According to Artuji:

“The news feed only includes a simple top toolbar and buttons for posting status updates and media uploads”

According to a Facebook Live, another dedicated blog for facebook:

There’s also no feed filters included in this more simple version. While I’m not sure about how this new version appears on mobile devices, there are numerous features which are absent from this new version. One interesting aspect of the Lite version of the homepage is that Facebook opted to display “People You May Know” over friends’ birthdays. While it doesn’t appear that Facebook will be promoting this new service domestically for now, it’s available for anybody that wants to use it.

The New Facebook Lite has got a very positive feedback from the users who gave it a try.  However, Artuji has raised a very well point that even though it is making the users happy with this super lite version of Facebook, the app developers are not happy at all as Facebook Lite don’t display any apps. The users switch over to the new version means loss of potential target base for  apps developers. According to Artuji:

A few days after its launch, many users are giving it positive reviews. The removal of third-party applications and the inclusion of only a handful of Facebook’s own applications made using the social network less complicated.

Those who are only there to take a quick look or is not really into apps but more into “socializing” finds the lite version more friendly. However, Facebook app developers seem to be not too happy about this.

When users fully transfer to Facebook Lite as their preferred platform, they could potentially lose the big income they’ve been enjoying since.

Do give it a try and let us know

McLaren MP4-12C Super Car – Pics and Specs

Posted by MJK On September - 10 - 2009

McLaren has now made public the first pictures of its much hyped McLaren MP4-12C, a car that has been dubbed as Super Car by experts and opinion makers. The pictures were first made public by Telegraph Motoring during their exclusive visit to the McLaren Automotive’s Headquarters.Telegraph team has the following to say about McLaren MP4-12C:

The 12C follows the McLaren F1 supercar, which had a top speed of 240mph in the mid-Nineties, and the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, which ended production earlier this year. A McLaren spokesman said this week: “The rules in the sports car world are about to be rewritten.”

Detail Specifications of McLaren MP4-12C:

The car is a beast when it comes to the specifications. AutoCar site has given detail specs of the new McLaren super car. According to AutoCar:

Design, engineering

Your first impression of the MP4-12C is that it’s a classy car with logical proportions and a near-perfect stance, but it’s far less spectacular than some rivals. That’s the whole idea, says design director Frank Stephenson.

He says in-your-face supercar styling can be “wearing and boorish” and risks becoming dated. “Great design looks relevant years later,” he says.

However, Stephenson and his team have resisted building any F1 family resemblance into the 12C. Instead, they have used the McLaren badge (team members call it “the McLaren tick”) in areas like radiator air scoops and headlight surrounds.

According to Stephenson, the 12C design has been led by a need for great aerodynamics.

The car is lower, shorter and narrower that all of its rivals, which makes it feel agile on the road and cuts its frontal area. The passengers have been moved closer together for the same purpose.

The front wings are shaped so their highest point is exactly above the contact patches of the front tyres, allowing the driver to place the car accurately on the road.

The forward screen pillars are positioned mostly for aerodynamic efficiency and good visibility, and both rear and rear three-quarter vision are much better than you might expect on a car so focused on performance.

The side-mounted radiators are placed near the engine to eliminate complex, heavy pipe arrangements and extra fluid, and to centralise their weight.

The twin exhausts run straight out through the rear body, also to save space and weight. Even the standard brakes – steel discs with forged alloy hubs – weigh around 8kg less than a 12C equipped with the optional carbon-ceramic discs that will be offered, and careful computer design of the wheels and their special Pirelli tyres has shaved another four kilos.

Chassis, suspension

The MP4-12C’s chassis is special, even among carbonfibre tubs. Unlike others, which consist of several major carbon components bonded together, the 12C’s ‘Monocell’ chassis is a hollow one-piece affair built using a new process that has taken five years to develop.

McLaren believes the Monocell process could revolutionise car design by finding its way into more mainstream cars. A 12C chassis can now be built in just four hours at less than a tenth of the cost of the McLaren F1’s chassis in 1993. It weighs a mere 80kg, yet it provides most of the car’s class-beating rigidity and does a myriad of jobs, including providing direct mounts for the steering and front suspension.

The 12C tub bolts directly to an engine/suspension cradle made of aluminium extrusions and there are crushable alloy structures at either end, beneath the SMC body panels.

Why no carbonfibre panels? Carbon would be costly and deliver no extra function; better to spend the money on fruitful refinements in other areas.

The 12C has electro-hydraulic rack and pinion steering and double wishbone/coil spring suspension at both ends. There’s the usual suite of electronic aids, including ABS, ESP, ASC traction control, electronic brake distribution and hill hold.

To that, McLaren adds something it pioneered in its F1 cars: brake steer, which applies the inside rear brake as the car corners, to aid turning.

The new McLaren also has a unique rear deck-mounted airbrake, in effect an electrically operated spoiler that can deploy much faster than usual (aided by clever use of aerodynamic forces) to improve stability under braking and increase retardation.

However, the big suspension story is the 12C’s pioneering use of electronic interconnection of all four adjustable dampers. This has allowed the engineers to ditch conventional mechanical anti-roll bars and create what they call “a unique relationship between ride and handling”.

When the car’s various wheel and motion sensors detect cornering, they increase cross-car damper rates to keep it nearly flat. But when it is travelling in a straight line they adopt more supple rates to provide something close to an executive saloon’s ride quality.

There are three different suspension modes (normal, sport, high performance) that adjust throttle curve, steering effort, ESP settings and ride parameters according to driver preference.

Powertrain

McLaren won’t say much about the MP4-12C’s engine, but the few details it is providing carry quite a punch.

It’s a British-built 90-degree V8 of 3.8 litres, rigid and compact in design, with double variable valve timing, and is force fed by twin turbochargers. This is no AMG cast-off, insists McLaren, but a compact design whose flat-plane crank and dry sump allow it to be mounted low down in the car.

Power is a class-beating 600bhp and the rev limit is 8500rpm, yet the motor also produces around 440lb ft of torque – and around 80 per cent of it is available below 2000rpm.

The gearbox is a seven-speed Graziano twin-clutch, twin-paddle affair, and there will be no classic stick-shift version. For one thing, McLaren is convinced the DSG is better; for another, providing a third pedal in its footwell would crowd its allotted shoe space. There’s enough room for drivers of all statures, engineers say.

McLaren calls the seven-speeder its SSG (for Seamless Shift Gearbox) and provides a variety of shift modes: normal and sport, plus a launch control, a winter mode and an ‘automatic’. The gearchange paddle pivots on the steering wheel boss like a racing car, so that as you pull one paddle, the other moves out.

There’s a ‘first pressure’ setting that McLaren calls Pre-Cog, which prepares the gearbox for an imminent change by showing which way it will go.

Interior

The cabin feels snug, a little like a tailored suit, but McLaren’s designers have tried hard to keep things simple and conservative.

Still, there is a surprising amount of space for small objects (there’s a big tray behind the seats and a Volvo-like space behind the centre console).

Surprisingly for a car whose creators talk a lot about racing connections, there are no wheel-mounted switches – they’re all grouped on stalks, or logically on the centre console – and the instrument pod consists of a solitary round tacho dial with a digital readout for speed and wings on either side that provide lesser information.

Serious drivers will like it. The seats are firm and comfortable, and the dihedral doors slope up and away from the kerb as they open.

Official Flickr App for iPhone Launched

Posted by MJK On September - 8 - 2009

I wonder if there is any thing that is left untouched by the Apple revolution? Every site has made their own application for the Apple most famous phone i.e iPhone. Flickr, which is a world for picture lovers have created their own official app for iPhone to better serve their clients who uses iPhone. The Flickr iPhone app is free and hence you can give it a try without giving a second thought. According to TechCrunch:

Yahoo’s Flickr app has just gone live in the App Store. After only a little bit of time using it, I can tell that I’m going to like it. The main screen is a fairly mesmerizing slideshow of photos from your contacts on Flickr. There is an upload button that is easily accessible right on the main page, and the upload process is nice and easy. You can obviously name your picture and give it a description, but you can also easily manage what set to put it in, and what tags to give it. And the privacy settings are very clearly displayed on the upload page.

The main page search functionality works well, and thumbnails are populated quickly. If you click on a photo, you can also go to a larger version loaded in a different screen that allows you to swipe left and right to move between images. It does not look like pinch to zoom works, however.

So what are you waiting for? Come on look at the screen shots and go ahead and download the Official Flickr iPhone App by clicking here

Older WordPress Versions Under Attack

Posted by MJK On September - 5 - 2009

Wordpress logoBeing a blogger, i am sure everyone is well aware of the wordpress engine as almost 5317360 bloggers are using it to run their blog sites. Even TechNama is powered by WordPress engine and we are very much satisfied with their services. Recently, i came across a news at TechCrunch that Wordpress has been facing a serious security threat to its older versions and hence all users should immediately update their current version to any version above 2.8.4 since all versions uptil 2.8.4 are vulnerable to the said security threat.

Things that you should know about this attack are following as per lorelle:

1. Reports are that this attack impacts ALL versions of WordPress up to 2.8.4, the most recent release.

2. What Version Am I Using? If you are using a WordPress version after 2.7, the nag screen on the WordPress Administration Panels will alert you to upgrade. If you are using an older version, upgrade now.

3. Use a WordPress Plugin for Protection: Do not rely upon a WordPress Plugin to protect you. There are many reports of Plugins that will “help” in the comments. While they might help in other ways, please upgrade now. That is the only solution if your site has not been impacted.

4. WordPress is Not Secure: WordPress is incredibly secure and monitored constantly by experts in web security. This attack was well anticipated and so far, WordPress 2.8.4 is holding. If necessary, WordPress will immediately release a update with further security improvements. WordPress is used by governments, huge corporations, and me, around the world. Millions of bloggers are using WordPress.com. Have faith they are working overtime to monitor this situation and protect your blog.

5. Fear of Upgrading: This attack is serious enough to overcome all your fears of updating. If older WordPress Plugins are holding you back, update them to the latest version or replace them with new. If your Theme might break, contact the Theme author and update or replace it. There are thousands of free Themes to choose from, probably some better than what you are using. If you are using a recent version of WordPress, updating is as easy as clicking a couple buttons. If you are using an older version, download the most recent version and upgrade now.

6. Other Issues? Whatever your issue is that keeps you from updating WordPress, get over it and update now to protect your site.

To find out if your site has been attacked or not you can check for the following as mentioned by Lorelle:

There are two clues that your WordPress site has been attacked:

First, there are strange additions to permalinks, such as example.com/category/post-title/%&(%7B$%7Beval(base64_decode($_SERVER%5BHTTP_REFERER%5D))%7D%7D|.+)&%/. The keywords are “eval” and “base64_decode.”

The second clue is that a “back door” was created by a “hidden” Administrator. Check your site users for “Administrator (2)” or a name you do not recognize.

There is no other alternative to this problem so better update your version before you face much bigger problems or lose all your effort and data to some exploiters. We have done in our case and we hope our readers will also follow suite. Do give us your feedback and comments in case you have any further info on this case.
