Make your mobile a robot with MoBots

by dave on June 23, 2009

Other day i came across an interesting app for mobile phones referred by a friend (you can follow his tweets here). The app is called MoBots. As is apparent from the name it literally makes your mobile phone act as a robot, lolz not in a physical term as in it should start walking rather conceptually.

As an example my friend said if i pick you for office every day, I can instruct my mobile phone that whenever i reach your place i instruct my phone to send you sms that i am out side or for that matter if you want to give miscall you can also do that…wise!

In simple words mobots application allows defining and handling MoBots: small robots that perform tasks automatically in accordance with their configured conditions. Several Mobots can be configured so you can enable or disable them. Although you can create your first mobot in just 3 steps but it takes some time to understand how events differ from conditions but once you get to know all the concept, it makes your life easy.

MoBot has done good to define 3 steps in graphical form. So you get to see yellow, green and blue blocks that represent Events, Conditions and commands respectively. Here is an interesting example that MoBots site quote that what it is capable of :

If your mobile has accelerometer, you can leave a handset in your car, and if you create a MoBots that if note any movement, then place a call to your other handset, you´ve created an alarm that your car is being stolen with only two blocks of MoBots.

Wow, that can prove quite handy. MoBots is currently available only for S60 3rd edition, initial release and Feature Pack1. You can download the MoBots from their website or if you want to directly download and install on device then go to mobots.org/d

So all in all its a good application. I am trying to get screenshots with in from my phone. So as soon as i get them, i will update them here. Meanwhile if any if you have tested this app, do give us your comments.
