Dave’s Crystal Ball – Fortune Telling Android App Review

by MJK on November 2, 2010

It seems as though Android Apps are never going to finish – new apps are released daily. Some apps are run of the mill whereas some have that bright spark, a spark that sort of creates a flare in our eyes.

Android is a mobile operating system initially developed by Android Inc., a firm purchased by Google in 2005. Android is based upon a modified version of the Linux kernel. It is a participant in the Open Handset Alliance. Unit sales for Android OS smartphones ranked first among all smartphone OS handsets sold in the U.S. in the second quarter of 2010, at 33%, achieving a market share of 20% in May 2010, second to Apple iOS.

This Android App is an Entertainment App that is available for the Android Mobile OS at a price of $1.99 and a Free lite version.  It is basically a fortune telling app. This app gives you ‘fortunes’ in an 8 Ball like manner. When you hold the crystal ball and ask a question, a spirit arises and then answers your questions. It also sort of ‘remembers’ questions you asked it and what answers it mentioned. As such, it is a rather interactive and intuitive app that certainly stands out amongst all other fortune telling apps. This Android app runs on the new Adobe AIR run-time – which can be downloaded for free from Adobe.

Why is this particular app different from the countless other Android Apps that currently populate the Android Marketplace? For one, it’s developer is a regular guy as opposed to a company. Additionally, this Fortune Telling app has 12 ‘digital ghosts’. These inform you (the user) of your fortunes. Additionally, answers to questions are also provided with the singular ability to save such answers as well as acquire second and third opinions.

The creator of this app is developer Dave Lasala. An independent flash developer, Dave has worked with Flash a lot – and has rather been frustrated as of the whole Apple-Flash fiasco. Trying out the Torque Game Engine, Dave says that Apple’s initial lack of Flash support hit him hard. Later on when iPhone re-instated Flash support, Dave says that he was surprised – and rather grateful. With this app available on both the iPhone and the Android OS smartphones, Dave hopes he’ll be able to carry on.

And as Dave says,

“The truth is I’m just an independent developer in a basement trying to make…dare I use the word…”art”, while also trying to eat. I hope you’ll give Dave’s Crystal ball a try.”

So grab a copy for this app and learn about the future!
