For people that regularly write down importance notes on little pieces of paper but tend to lose them, Genius Scan developed by Grizzly Software is a great app for them. Basically, this app is a document scanner that utilizes the camera on the iPhone 4.
This app is quite useful and surprisingly user friendly. As soon as you launch this app, users are given two feature options. The first feature is labeled “From Camera” that allows users to scan an image with their iPhone cameras. Users will feel that this feature is the most useful and versatile. When they choose this feature the application will automatically start the iPhone camera and any image taken will be edited accordingly to make it readable. It will basically assess the page’s frame and automatically modifies the image to be as flat as possible. The cool thing about this app is that even if it has difficulties to recognize a certain document because the image was scanned at an unreadable perspective, users but capable of editing the perspective by simply dragging the corners of the scanning grid. This feature is quite accurate and almost every text becomes amazingly readable.
Genius Scan’s second function is the “From Library” feature where users can analyze and edit pictures or images taken previously. This feature is quite useful if you previously taken pictures of any type of documents including menus, books post it notes, recipes and other form of text. Is quite amazing at how useful this app is to save images and text.
There are a few more selections for users saving images or text from the camera. The selections include making a new document, saving it over an existing document, saving to the Camera Roll, and sending the document as an e-mail in the form of a jpeg or PNG file.
This iPhone app works extremely well without any bugs or crashes. Users can even test the program by scanning an image with an extreme angle and editing it to be readable. Genius Scan is the closest thing to an actual document scanner for the iPhone. people that have a tendency to write down notes on pieces of paper, make sketches on top of a napkin, or scan a friend’s assignment on the go will definitely love Genius Scan.
