Jailbreak / Mod PlayStation 3 (PS3) with PS Jailbrak USB Modchip [Complete Guide]

Seems the hackers are turning their eyes towards the the Sony PlayStation 3 to jailbreak it after having done so with Apple iDevices. A guide has just been released to jailbreak PS3 using USB Modchip. That means you just need to copy the original game on your PS3 or an external drive and you can play it later on without need for the original game. Here is the Guide to Jailbreak PS3 using USB Modchip and to create backups of Original discs.

Some of the Pre-requisites for the Jailbreak of PlayStation 3 are as following:

1) Any PlayStation 3 Console (fat or slim) running firmware 3.41 or above.
2) PS Jailbreak USB Modchip (You can Purchase them from ChipSpain or OzModChip).
3) External USB drive formatted to FAT32 with the necessary “Backup Manager” . The backup Manager file can be downloaded from this Site
4) An original disc of PS3 game that you want to create a backup of!

Stepwise Guide to Jailbreak PS3 to Play Games without Original Disc with USB Modchip

Step 1: Switch off your PlayStation 3 and remove any disc in the drive. For Slim PS3, you need to even remove the power cord from it while for old version fat PS3, you can shut down the power button on the backside of the console.

Step 2: Insert USB based PS Jailbreak Modchip to either of the USB port on the console. After inserting USB, Switch on (Power On) the PS3 console and immediately press the “Eject” button. The USB will show two LEDs light on as the console is in the process of loading. The USB will stay there all the time as it is Must for this process. All the time you play the game after its backup, the USB Modchip will stay there in the port.

When the LED light turns to Green, it means the PS Jailbreak has been successfully loaded and hence you can start rest of the process. However, in case the red light turns on instead of Green, it means you have messed it up at first step and hence repeat the Power On and immediately pressing Eject button. You have to restart from Step 1.

Step 3: When your PS3 finish booting PS Jailbreak Modchip, you should plug-in the external USB device which has the “Backup Manager” set up and insert it into the console USB port.

Step 4: Now browse to the “Game Menu” on the PS3 OS and select the option “Install Package Files” as shown in the picture below. I am sure you have seen this menu and then select “manager.pkg” file. This will install the “Backup Manager” application downloaded earlier in Pre Requisite for the PS3 jailbreak

Step 5:Now that the “manager.pkg” file is loaded on your PS3, scroll further down in the same “Game Menu” and you will find a new application called “Backup Manager”. Now run this application. This will bring you inside the Game Manager application.

Step 6: Now you can insert any original PS3 game in your PS3 which you want to create a backup. Once done, press circle button “O” on your controller and PS3 will ask you where to make the backup i.e on the internal HDD or the external device connected via USB to the PS3. Step 7: Now that backup is created for the game, the question arises how to play it? To play the game through backup you just created, insert any original game disc (not necessary the same disc you just backed up) into your console, run “Backup Manager” in the “Game Menu”. On the controller press “X” or cross to play the selected backup game. The purpose is to tell the PlayStation 3 console as if a normal process is taking place.

Step 8: This will let you to be taken to the normal main menu and there you can find your game in the Game Menu. PS3 will act as if this game is already there on your PS3. Just select the game and run it without having its original disc in the optical blue ray drive.
