Intel Announced the Super-Slim SSD 310 series

by MJK on December 30, 2010

As we all are aware that Intel is working on super-famous Sandy Bridge Platform but even this big project didn’t stop the company to launch any new product. Intel Corp. announced its brand new 310 series solid state drives (SSDs) of size about 1.8”. These small and efficient drives are specially made for thin dual-drive laptops.

If we look this product more deeply then its dimensions are just 51mm by 30mm and thickness is only 5mm whereas weight is less than 10grams. You can imagine the efficiency by the fact that it will work on 200MB/s read speed and the write speed is 70MB/s. The developers claimed that its read and write input/output operation per second (IOPS) is up to 35K and 6.6K respectively. These drives are available with 40GB and 60GB capacity and are based on 34 nano-meter multi level cell NAND flash memory. If we talk about the price then 40 GB SSD and 80GB SSD will be available just in $99 and $179 respectively.

Tom Rampone, the vice president and GM of Intel’s NAND solution Group said that,

“The Intel SSD 310 Series is the first in a wave of SSD products we will introduce throughout the next year. With this introduction, Intel is offering full SSD performance in a compact, ultra-small form factorm,”

After announcing about the SSDs the Lenovo said that,

The Intel SSD 310 series will allow us to provide the advantages of a full-performance Intel SSD paired with the storage of a hard disk drive in a small, dual-drive system.

Intel is not the first one who is introducing the SSDs. Seagate also has 500 GB Momentus XT hard drives which also have integrated flash memory which enhance the speed. Toshiba don’t offer the complete SSDs but it is making components of SSD for new MacBook Air.
