Motorola has warned its DROID X owners that they would not able to upgrade if they opted for already available leaked ROM. Motorola posted this on their support forum that unless you revert back to the stock ROM, you will NOT get the official Android 2.2 Froyo upgrade that is scheduled for the DROID X in Early September.
Here is a warning that appeared on Motorola support forum:
WARNING: Do NOT load the leaked 2.2 upgrade that has been floating around on the Internets. There is currently no upgrade path from that load to the official 2.2 load that will be released by early September. Unless you have some plan to flash your phone back to the current official load, you could be stuck on the leaked version.
Motorola never liked (or for that matter no OEM likes) the flashing of leaked ROMs and even sent a cease and desist letter to the source site that leaked the Android 2.2. Having said that, the issue will continue and there seems no apparent resolution as owners feel they have the right to do whatever they want with their device.
