If you are a long time follower of John Carmack and ID Software, i am sure you must have heard about the upcoming fps title ‘RAGE’. At QuakeCon 2010 recently, the iconic founder showed how the newly developed id Engine 5 will run on iPhone 4 and iPad. Surprisingly it was running at 60 frames per second.
So what did we saw in the Rage demo?
The Rage demo lights scenes with radiosity to accurately simulate diffuse indirect illumination and shadows, and also features id’s MegaTexture technique of using a single large texture rather than repeating a single small texture tile over a surface. That results in a mobile game in the hundreds of megabytes, Carmack said.
So how would such a battery eating game run on iphone 4, which already has a rather weak battery? Rage has a plan for this as well. John carmack also mentioed that calculating 60 frames per second is a major battery draw on mobile devices, so the game would ship with an option to run at 30 frames per second as well.
Worthy to mention here that John Carmack and Co has already launched many of the old iOS titles including Doom, DoomII, Doom Ressurection and Wolfenstein 3d. All these titles are available on iTunes App Store.
Let us show you the Demo now;
You can also have a look at some of the best games for iPad. Stay tuned and we will bring you more. Adios.
