Verizon Wireless has launched the Verizon iPhone 4 in the event of January 11. Here are the highlights and Question – Answer session of the event.

- Verizon Wireless’ President & COO Lowell McAdam came on stage.
- He set the stage for the launch of Verizon iPhone by describing about CES, convergence of data, broadband and video. He said that, “Today two innovators are coming together.”
While talking about the FiOS (new 4G LTE network rolling out).”We debating calling this 6G” whereas while talking about other carriers such as AT&T rebranding their HSPA+ service as “4G”.
- “Today we’re partnering with a giant of the industry, and that’s Apple.”
- He talked about bringing iPhone to CDMA network in 2008 and tested for a year.
- He announced that iPhone will be available on Verizon from the start of the next month.
- He thanked to the senior officials of Apple Inc. and showed the pleasure about working together.
- Apple Coo Tim Cook joined Lowell McAdam on stage and said some words on the success of iPhone and showed the excitement in the project of Verizon and Apple.
He told about the features of Verizon iPhone and said that Verizon iPhone will have almost all the feature like FaceTime, Retina display, 5-megapixel camera with HD video, custom A4 chip, etc
- Dan Mead from Verizon came on stage and talked about the details of launch.
- Officials on stage also revealed the fact that the Verizon employees are getting the iPhone this week so that they can made it ready to launch in the markets.
- While talking about the network preparation, he said that they have been building in capacity to handle the coming surge.
- The users of Verizon can give the pre-order for Verizon iPhone from 3rd February and it will be available on all the Verizon and Apple stores from 10th of February.
- Price of 16GB iphone will be $199 and for 32 GB iphone will be $299. They also told that Verizon iPhone can be connected with up to 5 devices using hotspot feature.

Question: How many do you plan to make in the first quarter or year?
Answer: Cook: I’m not going to get into our forecast. But it’s a tremendous opportunity.
Question: Will it be on a yearly refresh cycle?
Answer: Cook: No comment.Question: Why no LTE?
Answer: Cook: Two reasons – First, LTE chipsets force design changes we couldn’t make in the iPhone 4. Second, Verizon customers said they want the iPhone now.Question: Is the CDMA version exclusive to Verizon?
Answer: Cook: It’s a multi-year deal, but non-exclusive.Question: Did you change the antenna?
Answer: Cook: We’ve optimized things to work on CDMA, but I’m not commenting on anything beyond that.Question: Simultaneous voice and data?
Answer: Mead: “It’s consistent with other CDMA devices now”, meaning no.Question: Any new capabilities compared to GSM version?
Answer: Hotspot is new.Question: When will we see LTE version?
Answer: No comment.Question: Coming to indirect sales channels?
Answer: Yes, but not at first…Verizon and Apple only at first.Question: More questions about lack of simultaneous voice and data and whether that will be disappointment for users.
Answer: Cook: It’s all about getting it on Verizon. The customers who want it there will be willing to make the trade-off.
