Posted by MJK On February - 28 - 2010

Google Analytics is something that every one in any field related to web is aware of and hence i will not waste my time explaining it. In any case, if you are still new to the web, you can click here  to take a product tour of Google Analytics.

For all those  people who use Google Analytics and want access to their Analytics account even when they are away from their computer, SynergyTech has come up with a great solution: Google Analytics Mobile (GAM)

GAM is not a freeware and hence we don’t love it that much but still its worth sharing with our readers and if anyone of you know of any other easy to use app for Google Analytics for mobile devices, they can share it with us here in comments.

In any case, lets look at GAM. It is an application for Windows Mobile running cellphones. Its main features include: Showing common reports, supporting accounts with multiple profiles, building new reports (use any data from analytics), securely encrypting your communication with the Google Analytics servers, and optimized for limited data bandwith requirements of cellular data networks.

With Google Analytics Mobile, you can analyze your site’s Google Analytics data on your schedule with your handheld device. To see the list of devices on which this app will work without any hindrance, visit the official site of the Analytics for Mobile devices here.

Ovi Maps for Nokia Symbian S60 – Free Download

Posted by MJK On January - 23 - 2010

Ovi Maps have lately been on the headlines all over the tech media. The news of free offering has brought revolution in the navigation industry and TomTom and Garmin are thinking to pack up or find some other way around the Nokia free Ovi Maps solution. With the new Ovi Maps app, the company is hitting back, especially at Google. More importantly, it’s Nokia’s big chance to become the GPS device maker of choice in countries where standalone navigation devices are still hard to find.

“Maps and navigation are as core and natural in a phone as digital cameras,” Tero Ojanperä, Nokia’s EVP of services, said to me about Nokia’s new release. “We think that the mobile phone-based navigation market is about to take off in a big way. GPS is now commonplace and average consumers are perfectly comfortable with navigation systems, but more importantly complete solutions are finally coming to market.”

According to Ovi Maps offers both car navigation and pedestrian navigation. The free navigation service is initially available on 10 different models with detailed maps in over 180 countries. Included are services as traffic data and travel guides from Lonely Planet and Michelin. Integrated into the system there is also a location sharing feature that works directly with Facebook – a quick share tells your Facebook friends exactly where you are.

iPod Hack: Make phone calls from your iPod Touch with Vopium

Posted by mansoor.ehsan On December - 18 - 2009

I have been looking in to communication apps and found that you can actually turn your iPod Touch in to a Mobile phone: you can make calls – send text messages and that is primarily because of 3rd party apps which enable this functioning.

Lately Vopium has released its app for iPod Touch which enables you to make calls (initially FREE and then you can buy from their low cost international call offering) and send SMS. You simply have to visit get.vopium.com from your iPod or download Vopium to your PC or Mac from iTunes.

Vopium is a free application installed on your iPod Touch (2nd generation) allowing you to turn it into a mobile phone. When your iPod is connected to WiFi, you can make calls and send text messages over the internet using your normal mobile number. You do not pay any charges to your mobile operator. You only pay Vopium’s low international call rates. You can obviously also use your iPod to make national calls. Just remember that you need to acquire a Microphone adapter to make calls.

When people call or text you back, you will receive the call and text message on your regular mobile phone. Thereby you are sure to always receive the call and text, even when you are not connected to WiFi

Vopium still has not integrated IM but it has been learnt from official channels that Instant messaging, integrated with MSN, Skype, Gtalk, Yahoo, AIM, ICQ and Twitter, will be added soon! Needless to say this new version obviously also works on your iPhone. You can read more about Vopium for iPod touch here (vopium.com/ipod)

A good news for Droid lovers is that hackers have successfully rooted Motorola’s Droid , so now users can install apps or services by 3rd parties of their choice outside the set menu by the operators. This new hack works on Android 2.0 and the recently released Android 2.0.1 OTA software update. Root access means you can change the phone’s firmware to in order to have your own themes, apps and custom Roms just like you do on the jailbroken iPhone. So in other words its jailbreak for droid!

How to root Motorola Droid 2.0.1

You can follow the simple guide below to root your Droid phone without worrying about making it a brick. It works on both Android 2.0 and 2.0.1 update:

1 IT IS RECOMMENDED that you first update to the latest Android 2.0.1 OTA software update.

2: Download the file (ROM OTA) for Android 2.0.1 for Motorola Droid posted in the forum discussion here (its a zip file).

3: Now rename this downloaded .zip file to update.zip

4: Next, transfer this file to the SD Card on your phone. You should move it root folder of SD card and not in any other folder

5: Power off your DROID phone. Power it back while holding the X key.

6: When you see a “/!\” symbol, press both vol+ and camera togather

7: Now simply follow the onscreen menu to install update.zip file.

8: Reboot your Droid phone and that’s it! You should now be able to run “su” from your adb shell.

We all must thank [alldroid] for providing us this hack!

Windows Notepad can officially be termed as ‘irritating and frustrating’ because of its limited functionality to view txt files with a major ‘characteristic’ of it being slightly less non user friendly

I searched and at least found 2 better alternatives for Windows Notepad.  So here are they:

Notepad2:

Scintilla-based Notepad2 is a freeware alternative to Windows Notepad which is a fast and light-weight Notepad-like text editor and comes with syntax highlighting and enlists line numbers for your code. This program can be run out of the box without installation, and does not enters into your system’s registry.Notepad2 has also been extended by other developers to add more functionality for example Notepad x64 has been released for 64-bit platforms, NotepadCrypt is available with encryption features, and other variants for lua syntax highlighting, NSIS syntax highlighting, Ruby syntax highlighting and ABAP syntax highlighting.

Notepad++

Notepad++ is also Scintilla-based and is written in C++, uses win32 API and STL to ensure that editor remains compact in size while execution is fast. The user friendly and feature-packed Notepad++ comes in more than 50+ local languages including Chinese, french, Spanish, German, Italian and many other local languages. Apart from functionality being super, the developers of Notepad++ have also paid attention to its visual beauty as well. So you have the option to download skins and themes.

  • Syntax Highlighting and Syntax Folding
  • User Defined Syntax Highlighting
  • Auto-completion
  • Multi-Document
  • Multi-View
  • Regular Expression Search/Replace supported
  • Full Drag ‘N’ Drop supported
  • Zoom in and zoom out
  • Multi-Language environment supported
  • Bookmark
  • Brace and Indent guideline Highlighting
  • Macro recording and playback

There is also Programmer’s Notepad – open source, scriptable, multiple document Scintilla-based editor.
