Hi Google Chrome OS

by dave on July 8, 2009

chromeWe have always seen a stiff comeptition between Microsft and Google (and Apple too). Microsoft would have taken a sigh of relief when they released Bing but now they would be again pulling their hair off after this announcement from Google that is launching Google Chrome OS.Google Chrome OS will be initially targetted for netbooks and yeah they are planning to keep it open source. It was also announced on google blog that netbooks with chrome OS will be available in secoond half of 2010.

According to Google Chrome browser has been downloaded 30 million times since its release 9 months ago. Based on Browsers’s vision Google is now advancing to churn out OS that would have speed, simplicity and security as key aspects.

Here is what Sundar Pichai posted on Goolge blog regarding its tech specs:

Google Chrome OS will run on both x86 as well as ARM chips and we are working with multiple OEMs to bring a number of netbooks to market next year. The software architecture is simple – Google Chrome running within a new windowing system on top of a Linux kernel. For application developers, the web is the platform. All web-based applications will automatically work and new applications can be written using your favorite web technologies. And of course, these apps will run not only on Google Chrome OS, but on any standards-based browser on Windows, Mac and Linux thereby giving developers the largest user base of any platform.
