CMS Products V2 Absplus 1Tb Back Up Hard Drive – Review

Posted by MJK On September - 13 - 2009

cms-v2-absplus-1tb-hard-driveCMS V2 Absplus is one of the fastest backup drives available in the market. Priced at $233 as of date, it offers a lot of features packed in just one gadget. The product is truly dubbed as “World Easiest Backup” solution. CMS V2 Absplus has USB/e-SATA interface. Beside this, it has a highly capable software which also contributes to part of its name i.e Automated Backup System or “ABS”.  According to  PC World:

Included on most recent PCs, e-SATA is considerably faster than USB 2.0 (which the ABS also supports). Thus, when attached to the e-SATA port, the ABS 1TB took just 25 minutes to back up almost 50GB of data; over USB, it took about 50 minutes to back up the same data.

Despite its speed, though, the overriding impression I’ll take away from the CMS V2 ABSplus 1TB is the shock I felt as the included BounceBack Ultimate software partitioned the hard drive I pointed it to without posing any secondary ‘Are you sure?’ query to confirm my intentions. The occasional lack of confirmation dialog boxes made me nervous, but BounceBack Ultimate is certainly packed with features and versatility. Despite being somewhat gaudy, the new interface is easy to navigate; and the software-hardware combo performed well overall. You can set backups to begin at first connection of the drive to the PC (USB only; e-SATA isn’t plug-and-play on most PCs), and you can define backups sets, schedule backups, and back up to multiple locations.

Yet another option is to set BounceBack Ultimate for a mode called Continuous Data Protection (or CDP), which protects your files in real time as you work on them. An Instant Recovery CD handles disaster recovery. Many competing backup drives lack both of these features. If disaster strikes, the ABSplus can double as your boot drive, until you have a chance to rebuild your internal system drive.

The portable ABSplus is an amazing solution for the mobile professional. Not only is the ABSplus the World’s Easiest Backup, it allows you to carry your computer with you right in your pocket! The ABSplus saves all data in native file format, making access to your files as simple as plugging into any computer. These state of the art notebook backup solutions allow you to keep working even if your computer doesn’t. Overall, its is versatile and delievers automated backup solution with an amazing speed as compared to the other options available in the market.

Western Digital is considered the best in the market when it comes to external storage solutions. My first external store disk is of WD since that was the one recommended by friends and even the vendors were in favor of it. I must confess, it has kept my trust till date. In a press release, Western Digital has announced the launch of their two new Passport external disks that are USB based and encased in Titanium silver finish. Not only this, they also comes with 128 bit encryption system so if you lost your disk, i am sure the one who find it will have a really tough time extracting your personal data.  The price of the 750Gb Western Digital (WD) Passport disk is $199 while that of 1TB is $299. I think its cheap when you consider the fact that the size is more then enough to carry all your data in a small compact disk with a 128 bit encryption system in place as well.

Below is the complete press release by Western Digital announcing their New My Passport(TM) Essential(TM) SE Portable Drives:

LAKE FOREST, Calif., July 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — WD(R) (NYSE: WDC), the world’s leader in external storage solutions, today introduced its new one terabyte (TB) and 750 gigabyte (GB) capacity My Passport(TM) Essential(TM) SE Portable USB Drives. Available now at WD’s online store (www.shopwd.com), the new drives feature a titanium silver finish and put massive storage capacity in the palm of your hand.

Perfect for saving, storing and backing up all of the digital memories captured this summer, the new 1 TB and 750 GB capacity My Passport Essential SE drives are light and compact to carry and, because they are USB-powered, they do not need an external power adapter (1). Equipped with sync and encryption software (Windows(R)-compatible only), this small drive, with mega-capacity, makes it easy to securely carry thousands of songs or videos or photos.

WD Sync software allows consumers to easily take desktop content with them by simplifying the synchronization of essential personal files and Microsoft(R) Outlook(R) data on a PC. Should owners misplace the drive, they know their data is protected with 128-bit encryption.

“The enormous capacity of these new My Passport Essential SE drives makes them the perfect travel-friendly storage device to hold all the rich media content generated by higher resolution photos and HD videos and music,” said Dale Pistilli, vice president of marketing for WD’s branded products group. “Carrying digital files close at hand continues to be a growing consumer interest and this new drive offers a sleek and stylish solution with plenty of storage capacity for people on the move.”

A product specification sheet and photos of My Passport Essential SE drives are available on the company’s Web site athttp://www.westerndigital.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=691.

Price and Availability

WD’s My Passport Essential SE portable drives are available now in the U.S. at select retail stores and from WD’s online store (www.shopwd.com). MSRP for the My Passport Essential SE 1 TB portable drive is $299.99 USD and for the 750 GB model is $199.99 USD.

Cool LG XF1 500Gb Multimedia Hard Disk with HDMI Port

Posted by MJK On July - 18 - 2009

lg-xf1-multimedia-hard-driveThe market for hard drives is now getting saturated and i personally like Western Digital when i make any selection. However, it only offers me one USB port which i use to transfer the data. In case i have to transfer multimedia content, i don’t find it very helpful since i can not play any high def content from it directly. However, LG new multimedia disk labeled XF1 has solved this problem. It offers an HDMI output and hence users can use it to play AVI, Xvid, and MPEGs 1, 2, and 4 files directly onto your TV set in 1080i quality.

LG XF1 Multimedia Disk has solve the problems of all those  tech junkies who want to play their favorite drama or movie directly from the Disk. According to TFTS,

Available with smooth curves and gorgeous gloss-black finish, LG FX1 is not much of a Mac lover as it packs a codec decoder that only reads FAT32 and NTFS exclusively. The devices features on-onboard touch-sensitive buttons for navigation (say bye bye to the remote) and for connectivity it aAdd an Imagelso comes packed with a composite AV output and a mini-USB jack.

Although it’s a damn pleasing addition – aesthetically speaking, the new LG XF1 lacks H.264, WMV and MKV support and misses out on a few features that would’ve turned it into a hot seller. Let’s hope LG can do a bit better next time …
